Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a loaf tin.
Mix mashed bananas, eggs, and maple syrup in a bowl. Add flour and baking powder, stir until smooth.
Remove about 1 cup of batter into a separate bowl; add cocoa powder and milk, mix well.
Alternate spoonfuls of plain and chocolate batter into the tin, swirl lightly with a knife.
Top with chopped hazelnuts if desired.
Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
