These Spinach & Feta Cigars are the ultimate crispy party appetizer – golden, flaky filo pastry wrapped around a deliciously savoury spinach and feta filling. Made with frozen chopped spinach, sautéed red onion, garlic, creamy feta, and optional fresh coriander, this easy baked recipe is both nutritious and crowd-pleasing. Perfect for entertaining, Ramadan gatherings, holiday platters, lunchboxes, or healthy snacks, these baked filo cigars come together with just 15 minutes of prep (plus draining time) and 15–20 minutes in the oven. Serve them warm with yoghurt dip or enjoy them on their own for a simple Mediterranean-inspired appetizer that’s light, flavourful, and irresistibly crispy.

Thaw & leave drain your frozen spinach overnight.
Heat some olive oil in a large pan or wok. Sauté the onions on mid-low heat until translucent.
Add the drained spinach & garlic. Mix & cook for a few minutes to dry out any extra water.
Remove off heat, crumble in the feta with your hands and season. Feta is usually salty so you may or may not need salt. Pepper is a must.
Add chopped coriander (optional but really adds to flavour).
Take a sheet of filo pastry & fold it in half (it usually has a natural fold).
Take two tablespoons of spinach mix in the centre. Fold filo over and tightly tuck the filling into a cigar shape and roll.
Brush with some beaten egg & sprinkle with black sesame seeds.
Cook in oven 180C for about 15min - 20mins.
Serve and enjoy while it's crispy.
